‘The Letter of Peter to Philip’ is obviously addressed to Roman Christians where Philip who represents a Sophia Mythos Christianity shows submissiveness to his authority. However, it is Peter and the assembled Apostles who receive a vision of Jesus telling the Sophia Mythos story of how she fell out of “disobedience and foolishness” and the demiurge created realms out of her creation which ended in them bio-engineering humans. This is the genesis of all human problems. Jesus tells them to fight against the archons by teaching “salvation with a promise” and that it is necessary to suffer.
The ‘place in life’ for the authorship could well be around 180 CE when Irenaeus published his ‘Against Heresies’ and the intolerance of the Roman Church towards divergent viewpoints hardened. This book could not only have been a push-back against Irenaeus but a message to Valentinians and others that suffering persecution at the hands of the Roman consensus was necessary as it was in the early days of the Church.
The author very well could have been convinced of the Sophia Mythos deriving from Jesus even the dialogue and characters may have been fabricated. The text shows some dependence on the Gospel of Thomas
